π Crazy busy is unproductive
Productivity sometimes gets an eye roll in mom circles because it implies being metered and measured in a role (motherhood) that is often neither.
However, as moms, our productivity should reflect our ability to do what we can with the time, energy and resources we have.
Thus, attempting anything more lands us in ‘crazy busy’ mode; and according to Dr. Daria Long (in our featured podcast episode this week) “in ‘crazy busy’ mode we are simply less capable of handling the busy.”
π€ Productivity depends on grace
Here are some things we’ve learned over our 8-week series on Grace & Productivity…
Back-to-school is taxing AND establishing routines can reduce our stress and overwhelm.
New routines have a learning curve AND ensuring that the routines are realistic and consistent keeps us moving forward.
New seasons are challenging for families AND kids are capable of getting comfortable with change.
Doing things the way they’ve always been done might not be the most effective way to get results. AND it’s healthy to pivot.
Balance is the new busy AND making time and space for the right kind of rest is the key to striking that balance.
Hence, productivity essentially depends on grace.
And furthermore, ‘crazy busy’ is unproductive!

Unfortunately, almost all productivity hacksβwith a few exceptions, like advice from Laura Vanderkam and the Lazy Geniusβare offered by people who are not the default parent at home…
“… you can tell by the way most of this advice is dished out that none of the people giving it have actually tried to apply it after not sleeping all night or dealing with an all-morning tantrum or losing half a workday to a sick kid.”
This quote comes from the article 8 productivity strategies for moms who are stressed about doing it all by Alexis Grant of Motherly.
It offers grace-laden wisdom for working moms and stay-at-home moms alike.
